“Family Home” Tewkesbury

May 14, 2024

By Lewis Critchley Architects

The project consists of an extensive renovation and extension to an existing property in Gloucestershire.

The project involved single and two storey extensions and modernisation of an existing family home to improve the flow of the existing house, more living accommodation, improved energy performance and connectivity to the rear garden at ground floor level.  A planning requirement to match existing materials, brick was used for the new extension with large areas of floor to ceiling glazing opening up the house and improving natural daylight deep into the plan.

The brief was to provide a light-filled, modern home using natural, timeless materials that seamlessly link indoor and outdoor spaces.  The transition and relationship between interior and exterior spaces have been carefully considered.  A key part of the design was the soft and hard external landscaping and how this connects with the new extension and forms private and semi-private areas for entertaining and relaxing.

“The layout of the house has been vastly improved to maximise the drama of the spaces. The clean modern details are complimented using natural materials to create a calm contemporary and sophisticated aesthetic, and one that is entirely functional as a contemporary family home”

Our aim in any project is to design with passion, care and attention to detail. Our mission is to engage with our clients to give a positive working relationship and experience whilst bringing their aspirations to life.
